“Can I help you, miss?”
“I hope so. Scott Spencer told me about what you do. I decided that I should talk to you.”
He looked at me more sharply. “How is little Scotty?”
“Still six foot three, so not so little. And kind of a mess. I didn’t know why until he told me about meeting you and what you did for him.”
He nodded, looking amiable. “Scotty got from me exactly what he asked for. He got the truth. Of course, the truth doesn’t always set you free. Especially if you choose to listen only to a little piece of it.”
“Yeah. Well, I’m sort of here to ask for the same thing. The truth.”
“Shame. Lovely young lady, determined to mess up your life.” He sighed. “All right. Have a seat at the lunch counter. I’ll be right with you.”
